Established in 2021, the AMITD platform is a proud initiative of the UFS DSI TIA Pharmacology Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) platform. Building on the rich tradition of pharmacology research at the University of the Free State, our platform is dedicated to advancing the science and development of traditional African medicines.

At AMITD, we are passionate about transforming traditional herbal knowledge into scientifically validated, safe, and effective health products. Our work encompasses the entire value chain of natural product research and development. From grassroots research innovations, basic research, and drug discovery to the development, standardization, clinical trials, and production of finished medicinal products. The research products include herbal extracts, concentrates, and isolated phytochemicals, formulations of dosage forms, all carefully developed through rigorous clinical and regulatory processes to meet market approval standards.
